Casio calculator skills

Button sequences for common GCSE calculator paper tasks (fx-83/85 GT class). Always check your exam board allows your model.

Standard form

  1. Press MODE → 8: Norm → 1: Sci
  2. Enter mantissa, press EXP or ×10^, enter power
  3. Example: 3.2×10^7 → 3.2 EXP 7

Table of values (y =)

  1. Press MODE → 3: Table
  2. Enter function e.g. 2X+3
  3. Set Start, End, Step — press AC/C to view table

Solve equation

  1. Press MODE → 5: EQN
  2. Choose polynomial degree or simultaneous
  3. Enter coefficients as prompted

Statistics — single list

  1. Press MODE → 2: Stat → 1: 1-VAR
  2. Shift STAT → Del to clear if needed
  3. Enter data values, AC/C to finish
  4. Shift STAT → 4: Var to find mean, σ, etc.

Fractions

  1. Press a b/c key for mixed numbers
  2. Use S↔D to switch between fraction and decimal answers

Trigonometry

  1. Check DEG mode (not RAD) on screen
  2. sin, cos, tan buttons for ratios
  3. Shift sin/cos/tan for inverse functions
